Patagonia created a short film called “Misunderstood | A Brief History of Hemp in the US” to shed some light on it’s past, present, and very important future.
This film is extremely interesting for anyone who’s curious about hemp. Even with the passing of the Farm Bill, there are still alot of misunderstandings surrounding it, so the film is well worth a 15″ watch and a share.
Hemp has a complicated, long and evolving history — especially in the U.S.
About 70 years ago, hemp was a staple crop in the US but, once it was grouped in with marijuana, its genetic cousin, it became outlawed.
However, with the passing of the Farm Bill in 2018, industrial hemp has the potential to make a resurgence, and that’s a pretty big deal. Because there’s a lot more to this plant apart from the fact that it looks like weed. There are a lot of potential uses for hemp including fabric, fuel, building materials and insulation, chemical uptake in soil, and most recently CBD smokables, oils, topicals and edibles.
