Hello and welcome back to the RESTART CBD channel. My name is Shayda and today we’re going to be answering what is a cannabinoid as part of our ABCs of CBD series. Now the word cannabinoid that might sound foreign to you and the definition of that word specifically means Any of a group of closely related compounds, which include cannabinol. As the active constituents of cannabis. A cannabinoid is the term that we use to refer to cannabinoids like CBD and delta nine THC. Those are compounds that are active and found in the cannabis plant, hence the word cannabinoid. cannabinoids are just one of the three primary categories of compounds found in the cannabis plant. Some other terms to familiarize yourself with are terpenes and flavonoids. And of course, we have videos that dive in deeper into those words, and encourage you to visit our channel for more educational cannabis content. But understanding that cannabinoids are just one component can start to help you better understand how to explore cannabis and find the desired outcomes that you are seeking. In fact, there are over 100 different cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. They each have different properties when isolated out and some argue they work better together which is referred to as the entourage effect. Historically, the first discovery of an individual cannabinoid was made when British chemist Robert S Kahn reported the Partial Structure of cannabinol also referred to as CB n, which he later identified as a fully formed in 1940. And two years later, in 1942, American chemist Roger Adams made history when he discovered cannabidiol, which we know today as CBD. The best studied cannabinoids include at tetrahydrocannabinol, which is THC cannabidiol, which is CBD and cannabinol, which is CBN. At restart we sell products that have at CBD CBN THC both delta a and delta nine as well as CBG, THCV and Cbc The reality is these different cannabinoids will affect each of us differently and that is due to a myriad of reasons. One being our biochemistry is different and it cannabis is fat soluble. So depending on your body composition and diet could determine how effective a particular cannabinoid is over another to another thing to consider is how you consume. Inhaling versus digestion are going to produce different effects with these cannabinoids and we refer to that as bioavailability. Meaning how much your body is going to absorb three, a really important factor is also going to be the dose, you might be like me and able to take a higher dose of CBD, but feel more sensitive when taking that same amount of THC. Be mindful of how many milligrams you are taking at any given time because that can play into how effective one cannabinoid or consumption method or dose is or isn’t effective for you. Another key thing to acknowledge is how these cannabinoids work in our bodies. Scientifically there is an explanation for how these cannabinoids bind to our receptors and it is called the endocannabinoid system. The endocannabinoid system also is referred to as ECS is a vast network of chemical signals and cellular receptors that are densely packed throughout our brains antibodies. The ACS regulates not only the central and peripheral mechanisms of food intake, but also lipids synthesis and turnover in the liver and adipose tissue as well as glucose metabolism and muscle cells. Specifically the ECS is made up of a CB one and CB two receptors, and these cannabinoids will interact and bind to either or as well as a combination of both. For example, the CB one receptor mediates most of the psychoactive effects of cannabinoids, whereas the CB two receptor is principally involved in anti inflammatory and immunosuppressive actions. So as you can imagine, there are psychoactive and non psychoactive cannabinoids and depending on the details mentioned above, how they bind and produce effects will come down to what cannabinoid or combination of cannabinoids you take and how and how much it is pretty neat that regardless of if you consume cannabis or not our bodies all have endocannabinoid systems, which to me just re emphasizes the potential of exploring cannabis. And I hope this video gave you some better understanding of what a cannabinoid is, and encourages you to rethink cannabis in terms of what is best for you and your body.
